The Informed Meetings Exchange (Inmex) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Meeting Planner.
Inmex (www.inmex.org) is a third-party meeting planning firm that works on behalf of non-profits, advocacy groups, academic associations, labor unions and religious groups to ensure their meetings, conferences and conventions are being sourced with socially responsible hotels and destination cities.
In conjunction with the hotel workers’ union (UNITE HERE), Inmex was established and incorporated in 2006 as a vehicle to promote transparency and corporate accountability in the hotel industry, specifically as it related to labor-management relations.
The Inmex Senior Meeting Planner will be responsible for leadership development, will interface with other management-level staff, and will have his or her own portfolio of clients to manage. The Senior Meeting Planner will report directly to INMEX’s Staff Director and Executive Director. This is a permanent position located at the Inmex offices in New York, NY. Though this is a meeting planning position, there will be room for this to become a management level position, which could mean added responsibility, higher salary and increased bonus.
Responsibilities: The principal duties of the Senior Meeting Planner include:
- Development and preparation of events for prospective and existing INMEX clients, which includes site selection, RFP preparation, contract negotiation, site visit preparation and general conference & event management.
- Working with INMEX Staff Director and Director of Business Development to maximize business development opportunities from our existing client base.
- Develop relationships, or expand on current relationships, with individual hotel properties and with national hotel sales staff to extract the best possible value for INMEX clients.
- Set goals and benchmarks for the Meetings Department consistent with INMEX principles and guidelines, and hold staff accountable to those goals.
Qualifications:
• Broad-based knowledge of the meeting/hospitality industry
• 5+ years experience managing a variety of sizes meetings from VIP board meetings to large conventions. Multiple hotel/convention center experience a plus
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, vendors , staff and boards
• Ability to manage a project from inception to completion.
• Keen knowledge and understanding of current political issues, particularly related to labor, advocacy and the environment as they relate to the hospitality industry.
• General understanding and facility of the Sales Force CRM database a plus.
